~ Welcome to Wesley Memorial ~
We invite you to explore our website and to come be a part of our community of faith!

This week's Events:

Sunday, August 1 ~ "The Gospel Growing in the Community Garden"
Text – Luke 12:13-21
8:30, 8:45, 9:45 and 11 am; Rev. Ashley Crowder Stanley, preaching

One of the earliest lessons we learn as children is the importance of sharing. Some of us learned it better than others. We know that some of us have more than others; we also know how hard it is to turn loose of the material trappings of our lives and give them to someone who is hurting, hungry or needy.  Yet, Jesus challenges our tendency to hoard and instead points us to the blessing that comes when we place less importance on keeping and more on sharing. He wants us to be “rich toward God.”

In our scripture for Sunday, we hear a powerful story about a man who had misplaced his priorities. He was confronted with both an economic and a spiritual dilemma. And Jesus offers a pathway out of this dilemma.

If you’ve ever struggled with your own priorities, if you are struggling now with the stressful economic picture, if you’ve made decisions that were more about being “rich” toward yourself and less about being “rich toward God,” Jesus’ story is for you. It’s a story about a man, his barn, his crops and his eternal life.

I hope you’ll be in worship on Sunday. When you come, please bring any fresh fruit and vegetables to be shared with folks in our community. If you have a garden, bring some of your crop; if you would rather, please bring something from the produce department at your local grocery store. We will gather the produce together and share it.

Our scripture for Sunday is Luke 12: 13-21. Please read it before you arrive on Sunday and pray that we will be led to be “rich toward God” and each other.

PS: Did you know that Wesley Memorial has a big Community Garden that is being tended by members of our church? You will be able to take a tour of the garden during the morning on Sunday! It’s a wonderful sight!

Have you cleaned out the attic this summer? Do you have unsold items from a yard sale? The UMW would like to have your clean, gently used treasures for the bazaar in November. No clothing please. If you need a place to store it call Faith Key at 885-1921.

Imagine what it would feel like to be evicted or to have nowhere to stay except in your car...nowhere to keep your clothes and other belongings. Interfaith Hospitality Network provides a temporary home, a meal, a place to sleep for families who have nowhere to go. Your help is needed to host the families who will be calling Wesley Memorial their home during the week of August 8-15. Volunteers are needed for overnight hosts (8 pm - 6 am), dinner hosts (5:15 pm - 8 pm), dinner preparers (drop food off at the church), van drivers (6:30 am - 7 am or 5 pm - 5:30 pm), setting up the “bedrooms” (Sunday, Aug. 8 at 11 am), laundry (after the week is over), and re-arranging the rooms after the families leave on Sunday, Aug. 15 (9:15 am). If you can help out, please contact Mendy Kearns (906-2407) or kearns@northstate.net.

You are invited to a recital given by Choral Scholar Joshua Conyers. His AUF WIEDERSEHEN RECITAL will be presented in the Church Sanctuary on Sunday, August 1 at 4 pm. A free-will offering will be taken to help Josh as he continues his studies at Indiana University.

experiences. For information, contact class leaders Bill and Carlene Blackmon (882-0930).
2. Yes, Lord I Have Sinned, But I Have Several Excellent Excuses, Aldersgate Miller Classroom, led by various Sunday school teachers – This 12-week study, which includes a brief 10-minute introduction to each lesson, points out that we use our circumstances, past events, and even evil spirits in an attempt to justify bad choices we knowingly make in our daily lives.
