SERVING ...
Why we at Wesley Memorial serve ...
Jesus gave his charge:
“God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, making them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day right up to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 --The Message
The scope of United Methodist mission ministries is mind-stretching. The widest horizons of human need are the ordinary boundaries of Christian mission.
Methodism’s founder John Wesley said, "I look upon the entire world as my parish." Wesley reminded us that we are called to step out of our little corner of the world to spread the good news, transform hopelessness into hope and help God’s children wherever they may be.
"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me."--Matthew 25:35-36, NRSV
While it would be wonderful if we could reach out personally to everyone who needs our help, we know that is impossible. So our congregation puts money into the offering plate, and through a carefully crafted system of United Methodist mission and ministry our gifts stretch around the world. Wesley Memorial also supports an extensive mission effort both at home and in far away places by participating members in our congregation. Here then is a look at our attempt to keep the “Great Commission” as commanded by our Lord.
We have the opportunity to serve within our own congregation, within our own community, and within our world.
