OUR COMMUNICATIONS

  • ORIENTATION DAY visit before school opens helps child (and parents!) feel more secure.

  • HOME/SCHOOL COORDINATION begins with our “Parent Night Meeting” in August. Parents come to meet one another; teachers distribute Parent Handbooks and share plans for the year. Parents complete a “Let’s Get Acquainted” form for teacher’s better understanding of the daily home routines of each child. Teachers use this information to make important connections (for example, it is helpful to know when child speaks about “Rusty” if this is a pet dog -- or an uncle who lives in the home!) Teachers also use “Let’s Get Acquainted” information to plan times for parents to share their own family culture, traditions, and hobbies during the school year.

  • LESSON PLANS POSTED DAILY indicate the units of study for your child’s class, and show how planned activities promote specific curriculum areas within those units (for example, during the unit on “Fall Harvest Time” it is noted which experiences are related to math, science, reading & literacy, and fine arts). Families are encouraged to share additional resources about units to enhance learning.

  • WEEKLY PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS include chats about child’s day at the classroom door, take-home notes, phone chats, e-mails, and homework folders (K-5’s).

  • THE PITTER-PATTER is the seasonal newsletter for our school. Classroom newsletters highlight growth & learning occurring in child’s own class, plus opportunities for parent involvement at upcoming events.

  • WRITTEN ASSESSMENTS of each child’s growth & development are given to parents 3 times per school year (Fall, Winter, Spring). Kgt-5 and Kgt-Plus students take home progress reports every 9 weeks. Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled. The Gesell Developmental Screening is a developmental assessment that can be administered when need is indicated to assist in correct placement of a child. Directors and several teachers on staff are trained examiners.

  • CLASS SHARING EVENT is planned at close-of-year for every class. Kgt parents attend individual class programs of songs & drama presented by their 4 & 5 year olds. These presentations are very special! Nursery families enjoy a “Spring Parent Night” during which teachers share videos of our younger class experiences from throughout the year. The evening is filled with stories & memories of happy Nursery days!
